I’m officially that slacker…the one that doesn’t do a blog post on her “monthly” blog for almost half a year. So much has happened this year, it’s almost overwhelming to think about putting it all in this post. Just over the last few months, life has taken us by the horns and shaken us so hard we have whiplash from the craziness of it all. Between new jobs for both Brian and myself, out of town weddings, weekend trips to see family and a seemingly endless string of showers, birthday parties and various celebrations, 2013 has thus far left us standing dazed, wondering where the time has gone and when it will slow back down to a manageable pace. I alone will have traveled to four different states within the last 5 weeks, and it’s a ways away until I see a light at the end of the traveling tunnel.
February and March was somewhat the calm before the storm, in retrospect. That may be the last time I can remember an entire weekend of Brian, Addy and I being at home together. Towards the end of March, a brand new position became available at my company and I started the interview process for the Field Sourcing & Diversity Specialist role for the state of Washington, one that ended up being a bit of a lengthy process, culminating with a start date in late-May. Brian started looking for a change in early April, and was presented with a few interesting offers along the way. He decided to join the team at ISS Connectivity as an Account Manager and started his new role in mid-May. Both our recent role changes have brought with them long training hours and trips to Denver, Madison and Canada between the two of us just in the last two weeks. This has presented a new challenge of finding someone to watch Addy for days at a time…thank God for family! It sure makes it a lot easier when Addy adores her grandparents, aunties and uncles and Brian and I couldn’t be more appreciative for all of them.
I can’t remember a time in my life where I have ever traveled as frequently as we have this Spring. Brian’s best friend got hitched in Maui in May, so we had to fly over for that (darn!). ;) It was a much needed break before starting our new jobs, one filled with exploring, sunbathing and lots and lots of amazing food. By the end of our trip, we were this close to packing up our life and becoming beach bums in Kihei…and then we came back to reality. Oh well, maybe someday. We had such an incredible trip and left with yet another goal on our life list – a timeshare in Hawaii! This coming week we will be going to California to see our beloved Sarah (Brian’s sister) marry the incredible Mr. Carl. We are so excited for that special day and can’t wait to be a part of it! Addy will be the cutest frickin flower girl ever in history (sorry to all the other parents out there, but it’s true). We’re just all crossing our fingers that she’ll make it down the aisle without incident. But if not, hey, that’s how memories are made. J
Ok, enough about our crazy schedules. Let’s get to what everyone really wants to know about – Addy. She has grown so much in the last few months, in every way, shape and form. Still in the 90th percentile, she’s sprouting like a weed and leaning out, full of the bursting energy of an almost-two-year-old that I only wish I had. With spring upon us and summer just around the corner, we spend as much time as possible outside, Addy’s favorite place to be. She’s an outdoor girl through and through. The first thing she says when she wakes up in the morning is “park”, if that gives you any idea. She loves playing with rocks and pinecones and dirt and mud…we’re wondering if she might follow in her mama’s footsteps and be a little tomboy. Playing in the water, whether it’s the hose or the lake or hood canal – doesn’t matter how cold the water is, Addy wants to be in it. That’s my girl! ;) Her love for music continues to grow, singing along with us now to almost any song. Her favorite song is currently Old MacDonald, to which she croons “e-i-e-i-o” and “moo, moo” on cue. Pretty much the cutest thing ever if you ask me. Along with her love for the outdoors and music, she is becoming more and more independent by the day. God forbid you do something that she wants to do herself, you’ll end up with World War 3 on your hands. Her vocabulary is growing leaps and bounds by the day, which is amazing to see. Her knowledge and development still blows me away on a daily basis, I am constantly in awe of her intelligence. But unfortunately that also brings with it phrases such as “stop it” and “no”…you can’t say the girl doesn’t know what she wants, that’s for sure! Addy also started potty-training herself fairly recently, which is AWESOME. It’s been difficult keeping it consistent on our part with all the time out of town, but slowly but surely we are making our way out of the diaper stage, wahoo!! At least until #2 comes along. ;) There are millions of things I could say about my amazing daughter – how she says “uh-oh” anytime something drops, or how she loves to sit in her chair and “read” by herself, or how she blows kisses to everyone that leaves our home, or how she loves to help mommy cook dinner. Millions of little moments that I know will be gone in the blink of an eye, and I can only pray I remember every second when I’m old and reminiscing with Addy’s own children about their mommy when she was little. We are so blessed to have her in our life. So blessed.
Hopefully life is starting to slow down a little bit, although I fear it will be the opposite, flying by faster and faster with each passing year. Life is an amazing thing, leaving you breathless at times with its beauty, craziness and priceless memories. All I can say is that I love my life and thank God every day for it. Now if only he would bless me with a clock that could stop time…oh to dream. J
